Vascular
Vinyl tubing, dye, water, adhesive.
When creating Vascular Maura aimed to reorient the soft and familiar ritual of knitting with new mediums. Vascular uses the aesthetics of the inorganic to translate the form and feeling of the human heart. This piece contextualizes the body as being interwoven with culture, experiences, and traditions. The medicinal, visceral, and hollow qualities of the transparent tubing allows space for duality and balance between subject and medium. Maura learned to knit as a child, those experiences coupled with the works Moor by Janine Antoni and Blood Scarf by Laura Splan were influential in the conceptualization of this piece.
